Building on the momentum of the initiative’s launch on December 10, 2024, Valenzuela is now the first city in the Philippines to deploy the largest number of electric vehicles for police operations. A total of thirty-five (35) EVs were allocated to the Valenzuela City Police Station (VCPS), while six (6) new EVs were designated for use by various government offices — a major milestone in the city’s ongoing transition to clean energy.
This pioneering move is made possible through a partnership with ACMobility and BYD Philippines, driving the adoption of sustainable transport solutions that benefit both the environment and public service delivery. By replacing traditional gasoline-powered police vehicles with energy-efficient EVs, the city government is set to save hundreds of millions of pesos in fuel and maintenance costs over the long term. Beyond the economic benefits, this shift significantly reduces the city’s carbon footprint — proving that fiscal responsibility and climate action can go hand in hand.
By aiming to be the first LGU in the Philippines with the largest fleet of EV police cars and the most extensive network of government and public charging stations — strategically located along NLEX, MacArthur Highway, and Mindanao Avenue — Valenzuela City positions itself as a torchbearer for sustainability and innovation in the country.
Allotting a budget of PHP 75,768,000.00 through the assistance of Senator Win Gatchalian’s Office, the first fleet of EVs were turned over to VCPS and other government offices in order to equip them with reliable and cost-efficient mobility units and ensure police operations and efficient delivery of public service. Each electric vehicle features a maximum power of 150kW (95 horsepower), a battery capacity of 44.9 kWh, and a range of 405 km. Proving its energy efficiency, electric vehicles can charge from 10 to 80% in around 30 minutes. This vehicle also has anti-theft equipment, regenerative braking, and an electronic stability program; certifying its efficiency for police use.
Alongside, the Valenzuela LGU also unveiled the Valenzuela EV Charging Station located at the ALERT Center. This marks the first among the 13 city-owned EV charging stations that will soon be established at the Valenzuela City Hall and nearby several 3S Centers across the city. 5 new ACMobility EV Charging Stations are also slated to open in Valenzuela City.
Mayor WES Gatchalian was joined by guests of honor Senator WIN Gatchalian, Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla of the Department of the Interior & Local Government and former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto to witness the ceremonial turnover of the electric vehicles.
In his message, Mayor WES expounds on the benefits of adopting electric-powered vehicles in the economy and public health. “Electric vehicles offer a cleaner alternative. This will also complement our City Ordinance No. 525, Series of 2018, aptly titled the “Environment Code of Valenzuela City,” which serves as a guiding framework for our environmental efforts. By adopting EVs, we set an example for industries, proving that “progress and sustainability are not mutually exclusive” but, in fact, intertwined, while still providing the same quality service to our constituents.”
Also present during the ceremony were BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Mr. Bob Palanca, Northern Police District Director PBGEN. Josefino Ligan, VCPS Chief of Police PCOL. Nixon Cayaban, and other city officials.
The newly unveiled EV Charging Station at the ALERT Center is the first of 17 city-owned charging hubs that will soon be installed across Valenzuela, including key locations such as City Hall and several 3S Centers. In addition, a new wave of ACMobility Charging Stations is set to open in the city — expanding EV infrastructure and making sustainable mobility more accessible for both government operations and the general public.
The “Go Green Valenzuela” program embodies the city’s dual mission: to strengthen public safety through modernized police mobility and to foster a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations of Pamilyang Valenzuelano. It’s not just a shift in transportation — it’s a forward-thinking investment in sustainability, savings, and service excellence.
