On his official first day of office, City Mayor REX Gatchalian promised that all transactions at the city hall will continue its normal course for the services to run smoothly.

Last Thursday, June 27, during the ceremonial turnover of authority between him and the outgoing city mayor, and now 1st District Representative, Cong. Sherwin T. Gatchalian, he said that there will be no ceremony to hamper operations, but rather everyone will just continue their jobs serving the people efficiently as they have been generally doing.

During his first flag ceremony with the city government employees today, he encouraged everyone to remain living out to the principles of 3S, or Simple Speed and Service Excellence in Public Service, which the local government has come to be known to all the constituents.

3S is Valenzuela City’s Anti-graft and corruption platform to guarantee transparency and good governance.  It was awarded by the Galing Pook Foundation as one of the 2012 Galing Pook Ten Outstanding Local Government Programs in the country for innovation and excellence in local governance.

He also encouraged everyone to observe respect without prejudice.  “Irespeto natin ang lahat ng indibidwal na pumasok sa city hall.  Bilang kawani, obligasyon natin na paglingkuran ang lahat. Nakatsinelas man, naka-shorts o naka-maong.  Kailangan kung sino man sila nirerespeto natin tulad ng pagrespeto natin sa ating mga sarili.  Sila [ang mga tao] ang nagpapasweldo sa atin kaya kailangan hindi tayo namimili ng paglilingkuran.  (Let us respect everyone who goes to the city hall.  As public servants, it is our obligation to serve all.  Whether that person wears slippers, short pants or denim jeans; they deserve the same respect we accord ourselves.  They [the people] are the ones who pay for our salary.  That is why we should not discriminate on who we will serve.)”  He said.

He also asked apology for the learning curve he may undergo for his first week in office, but he promised to adjust to the dealings at the city hall soon enough.

The chief executive spent his first day visiting employees and offices, and meeting his management team for updates and planning programs and strategies for implementation.
