The term “Coloong” was named because the place seemed to be caged in or “nakakulong” by encircling roads and surrounding rivers.
In the early time of civilization, agriculture and fishing were the only known forms of livelihood because of its topography. Bountiful crops of rice, corn, sugarcane and vegetables were collected during harvesting time while fishponds and rivers were thriving with rich sources of fish.
Unfortunately, for almost twenty years, because of the many reclaimed areas nearby and large portions of the area that are constantly flooded, agriculture wasn’t a means of living anymore. However, fishing becomes the main source of livelihood.
As of date, the total land area is approximately 224 hectares.
Residents celebrate the feast of Sta. Cruz every April 30. The barangay has one public school, one private school, three learning centers and seven chapels.
