Eight minors found inhaling rugby and thinner were saved during a reach-out operation in Barangay Marulas on Tuesday, November 25.

Three men were also caught during the operation jointly conducted by the police and the City Social Welfare Development (CSWD) in what used to be a Shakey’s restaurant near the Fatima Medical Center.

The minors were former residents of Bahay Kalinga, the city government’s halfway house for abandoned children elderly and abused women, but were released when their respective families claimed them. Immediately after the raid, the CSWDO sent the minors to Bahay Kalinga and eventually will be sent back to school.

One of those who were caught was the father of two of the children, and was also a resident of Bahay Kalinga. According to Dorothy Evangelista, the officer-in-charge of CSWDO, the government is planning to provide money for the man’s rent, as well as means for livelihood in order to keep his children in school.

The CSWDO also recommends declaring the facility abandoned and subject for condemnation, as well as placing a visible roving task force within the area.

The raid is part of the CSWD’s program to look after the wellbeing of minors, and is part of the city government to keep Valenzuela drug-free.
