February 14, 2014, VALENZUELA CITY – In celebration of the 16^th Charter Day of Valenzuela City, the local government staged once again its annual “Taxpayers and Job Providers’ Fellowship Night” to honor the top business entities which had the greatest contribution in the city’s revenue and employment generation programs.

 

More than a recognition rite, the fellowship night was also a thanksgiving program to inform the business sector that the taxes they pay are properly utilized by the local government for projects that promote social responsibility.

 

Mayor REX Gatchalian took the center stage to describe his governance platform which he calls “The Five Pillars of Good Governance for a Better Valenzuela City.” These pillars include (1) Trade and Industry, (2) Education, (3) Health and Social Services, (4) Housing, and (5) Job Generation.

 

“Ang mga buwis po na kinokolekta ng pamahalaan ay mararamdaman ninyo, makikita ninyo, at magtatrabaho para sa inyo” (Your taxes will be felt by you, will be seen by you, and will work for you), Mayor REX assured his valued guests in Filipino.

 

The local chief executive initially conducted a three-day company visit from February 5 to 7, to personally hand the trophies to the presidents and managers of the winning corporations and business establishments.

 

The top taxpayers were given a sculpted trophy called “Pagyabong” to represent their contribution in nurturing the progress of Valenzuela City.

 

The top job providers on the other hand received “Sandigan,” which symbolizes the collaboration between the city government and the private companies in building better careers for Valenzuelano job seekers.

 

The top taxpayers were classified based on their capitalization. The categories were (1) Large Company Category, for companies with capitalization of more than PhP100 million; (2) Medium Company Category, those with capitalization of more than PhP15 million to PhP100 million; (3) Small Company Category, those with capitalization of more than PhP3 million to PhP15 million; and (4) Micro Company Category, those with capitalization of PhP 3million or less.

 

The top job providers were identified by the Public Employment and Service Office (PESO) based on the number of their accommodated job seekers.

 

Valenzuela City’s charter day celebration, which coincided with Valentine’s Day, was serenaded by soul siren, Nina.

 

Valenzuela City is among the five local governments in the National Capital Region which was given by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in its Local Governance Performance Management System (LPGMS) a perfect score of 5 for its promotion of entrepreneurship, business and industry in 2012.

 

Also in 2012, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) recognized the city as one of the “Most Business-Friendly” in the country.

 

Last year, the City Public Employment Services Office (PESO) was awarded first runner-up for Best PESO in the NCR for 2012 by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
