While away from the corners of their schools, some 4,670 recorded as severely-undernourished K to 6 In-School Feeding Program beneficiaries at public elementary schools received1.2-kilogram milk packs to continue their nutritional nourishment at home.

Part of a bigger award-winning intitative of the local government, the Education 360 Degrees Investment Program, the distribution at the respective public schools where the students are enrolled at started last March 1 and will end on March 6, 2019; days before the summer vacation for the school year 2018-2019 officially commence.

The milk distribution, Mayor REX Gatchalian said, "hopes to welcome the students back to school with a body and mind conditioned to learn even more".

The feeding program, which is being run in partnership with the Ateneo Center for Educational Development’s (ACED) Blueplate Program and the Department of Education (DepEd),aims to give the students better physique and a more nourished mind because the City believes that it is one of the factors to become a more active and productive student. Baseline and yearend data show that the program demonstrated improvement in academic standing of the students, with a record of 75% annual progression average. Furthermore, improvement in nutritional status of student beneficiaries is at 88%average annually.

It has also helped in the constant decrease in the malnutrition prevalance rate in the City with data as follows:

Year   2013   2014   2015  2016 2017 2018
Malnutrition Prevalance Rate 2.1% 1.8% 1.54% 1.39% 1.24% 1.03%

In a statement, Mayor REX Gatchalian credits the volunteers who are continually sending their heart-felt support in the success of the program saying, “They are the true fuel of the program.  Without them, implementation of the program will be rather costly on the part of the local government.”

Cost of feeding per student daily is pegged at PhP 11.

The office of Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, Project Manager of Education 360 Degrees Investment Program spearheaded the four-day distribution.
