Meralco, CDO Valenzuela’s top taxpayer, employer for 2015

The local branch of power distributor Manila Electric Company (Meralco) and food conglomerate CDO Foodsphere were Valenzuela City’s top taxpayers and top job provider for 2015, respectively.

Meralco and CDO were among the 40 companies recognized by the city government in a ceremony at the Valenzuela City People’s Park Amphitheater, February 14.

Held yearly since 2005 as part of the city government’s Charter Day celebration, the Top Taxpayers and Job Providers’ Night honors the companies that pay the highest business taxes and who receive the highest number of job referrals from the local public employment office. Valenzuela, which became a city on February 14, 1998, is celebrating its 18^th Charter Day this year.

Meralco, which paid a total of Php76,649,504.88 in business taxes in 2015, led the 20 top companies. Altogether, they had paid business taxes amounting to Php174,729,543.80, or 25.36% of the total business tax the city government collected in 2015. The City Treasurer’s Office reports the city government earned Php688,968,401.11 in business taxes and a total tax revenue of Php2,168,197,387.47.

Taxpayer awardees were distributed across four categories: large companies, those with a capital of more than Php100 million; medium companies, those with a capital of Php15 million to Php100 million; small companies, those with a capital of PhP3 million to Php15 million; and micro companies, those with a capital of Php3 million or less (See tables below).

CDO, on the other hand, was hailed for accommodating the highest number of job applicants referred to it by the Public Employment Services Office, a total of 3,258 (See table below).

Also cited during the event are the five companies that hired the highest number of Special Program for the Employment of Students employees: Human Resources Management Association of Valenzuela, Inc., Fujiweld Inc., Polyglass International Manufacturing Corp., Innobev Inc., and Fresh and Famous Foods, Inc. (Chowking Valenzuela) This was the first time the city government recognized SPES employers.
