Taking the helm towards a greener future!
Valenzuela City is all set to embrace a green initiative as it headstarts a shift from its conventional peace and order vehicles to ecologically safe electric vehicles as it entered into a groundbreaking partnership with ACMobility and BYD Philippines to launch “Go Green Valenzuela” with a ceremonial signing event held at the Valenzuela City Hall Atrium on December 10, 2024. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to sustainability and innovation through the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), marking a significant step toward eco-friendly urban development.
During the ceremonial signing held at Valenzuela City Hall, the city unveiled its new electric vehicle fleet comprising a total of forty-one (41) BYD Dolphin Electric Mobility Units, which will primarily be used by the Valenzuela City Police Station. This move makes Valenzuela the first local government unit in the country to implement such an extensive fleet of EV police cars.
The program highlights Valenzuela’s mission to advance public safety by equipping local police with reliable and environmentally sustainable vehicles, promote environmental sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint of government operations, and enhance cost efficiency through reduced fuel and maintenance expenses.
In the bargain, the city government, through Mayor WES, allocated PHP 75,768,000.00 to purchase forty-one (41) 5-seater hatchbacks—forty (40) units for Valenzuela City Police forces and one (1) unit for the Valenzuela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office's (VCDRRMO) Quick Response Team. In support of this, electric charging stations for the acquired vehicles will be positioned at the several 3S Centers across the city. Furthermore, there will also be charging stations situated at Valenzuela City Hall, ALERT Center, and SM Valenzuela.
The electric vehicle features a maximum power of 150kW (204 horsepower), a battery capacity of 44.9 kWh, and a range of 405 km. Proving its energy efficiency, electric vehicles can charge from 10 to 80% in around 30 minutes. This vehicle also has anti-theft equipment, regenerative braking, and an electronic stability program; certifying its efficiency for police use.
In his message, Mayor WES Gatchalian expounded his key points dubbed AIR: Advancing Peace and Order, Igniting Green Initiatives, Revving up Cost Efficiency. These are the main objectives of the city government to shift their conventional fuel-powered service vehicles into electric vehicles–starting at the police unit. He also aims to be the first LGU with the largest number of EV police fleet and with the largest charging stations in the country. “We take the wheel of change and drive toward the horizon of a cleaner future. ” Mayor WES said.
Also present during the event were BYD Cars Philippines Managing Director Mr. Bob Palanca, Iconic Dealership COO Mr. Dennis Salvador, Mr. Cris Gamboa of BYD Valenzuela, NCRPO Acting Regional Director PBGen. Anthony Aberin, NPD District Director PCol. Josefino Ligan, VCPS Chief PCol. Nixon Cayaban, Councilors Marlon Alejandrino, Sel Sabino-Sy, Liga ng mga Barangay President Councilor Mario San Andres, and other city officials.
The Go Green Valenzuela Program pioneers a significant step in the city’s efforts to adopt sustainable and cost-efficient solutions for public service. Through this partnership with ACMobility and BYD Philippines, Valenzuela City continues to lead by example in integrating innovative technologies that benefit both the community and the environment. This initiative reflects the city government’s commitment to practical, forward-looking solutions that enhance the quality of life for every Pamilyang Valenzuelano.
