Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian will lead the Valenzuelanos in commemorating 15 years of sustained progress of the City on February 14 with an array of programs and activities anchored on the on the theme “Valenzuela the Highly Urbanized and Most Business-Friendly City, Remaining Steadfast for the Years to Come!”

Valenzuela City will once again celebrate its Cityhood Day through tributes to taxpayers who have been the partners in development. It shall become also an opportunity to highlight its commitment in developing jobs opportunities to the constituency and underscore the relevance of culture and arts in the progress of a local government unit.

Valenzuela was classified as a highly urbanized city on February 14, 1998, when President Fidel V. Ramos signed RA 8526, an act passed by congress, as authored by the late Congressman Antonio Serapio.

This was ratified by the people through a plebiscite held on December 30, 1998, making the City of Valenzuela the 12^th City of Metropolitan Manila and the 83^rd of the Republic of the Philippines.

In 2006, Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo thru R.A 9428 declared February 14 of every year a Special Working Holiday in the entire City of Valenzuela to commemorate its conversion into a highly-urbanized city and to be known as “Araw ng Valenzuela.”
