With the continuous flood control projects in the city, the blessing and inauguration of its 25th pumping station — led by Mayor WES Gatchalian — that benefits Barangays Veinte Reales and Lingunan, was successfully operated on September 19, 2024. 

Due to climate change and global warming, some parts of Valenzuela City are prone to flooding, especially the low-lying and catch basin barangays in District 1 — particularly Barangays Veinte Reales and Lingunan. The MEGA Pumping Station opened on September 19 to lessen the flood situation in these areas.

While 70% of the waters in the city (from Barangays Bignay, Punturin, Lawang Bato, Canumay East, Canumay West, Paso de Blas, Bagbaguin, Mapulang Lupa, Parada, Ugong, Maysan, Karuhatan, a portion from Gen. T. de Leon, Malinta, and Dalandanan), portions from Lawa and Caingin in the City of Meycauayan, and some parts from North Caloocan passes by Brgys. Veinte Reales and Lingunan’s creek, the newly-opened MEGA Pumping Station will help ease the flooding in Luis Francisco Subd., Veinte Reales, Rubber Master Rd., Lingunan, and other nearby downstream barangays. 

The PhP 400 Million Veinte Reales–Lingunan MEGA Pumping Station has 4 submersible 2.0 m3/s pumps — 8 m3/s in total, 4 units of 500 kva generator sets, and 2 floodgates that quickly remove sewage or wastewater.  

Moreover, Mayor WES encourages the citizens to understand that the pumping station is just one of their flood control projects and they are working for more, “Sa sitwasyon natin ngayon sa climate change, sa global warming na nangyayari sa buong mundo ay hindi natin maiiwasan pa rin ang pagtaas ng tubig…. Kaya po hinihingi namin ang inyong konting pang-unawa, ang importante sa amin ni Kap. Jojo ay ang main road po ay magawa na… at uunti-untiin po natin tapusin ang mga looban na kalye. Hindi lang po [ito] sa Veinte Reales, [kundi] sa buong Valenzuela.” [In our world situation such as climate change and global warming, flooding in some areas is inevitable….That is why we need your understanding that Kap. Jojo and I are prioritizing the fixing of main roads… and we are gradually fixing your street roads. This project will be all over Valenzuela City, not just in Veinte Reales.]

The blessing and inauguration were also attended by St. James St. LFS residents in Brgy. Veinte Reales, with their Punong Barangay Jojo San Diego, Brgy. Lingunan Punong Barangay Jose Cabral, 1st District Councilors Riccar Enriquez, Cris Feliciano, and Liga ng mga Barangay President, Coun. Mario San Andres, DPWH District Engineer, Engr. Ruel Umali and his team, Architect Benjie Gamaro, Flood Control Division, Waste Management Division, and Clean and Green Division, among others.

Aside from the MEGA Pumping Station, the City Government of Valenzuela encourages the Pamilyang Valenzuelano to avoid throwing garbage in the streams and to always prepare for upcoming calamities.
