Thousands of runners took part in the recent Congressman Win Gatchalian Birthday Fun Run 2015 last March 28 that served as part of a series of activities to celebrate the birthday of Valenzuela City First District Representative Sherwin Gatchalian.

According to Sports Development Assistant Director Rommel Laxamana, the turnout of runners was more than expected. “A total of 3,865 people who registered for the run but there were a lot of walk-ins so we estimated that there were around 5,000 who participated,” he said.

Organized by the Valenzuela City Sports Development Office, the event aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle in the community.

The participants started the run at 5:30 am at the Valenzuela City Astrodome in Brgy. Dalandanan. They covered 2.5-km, 3-km and 5-km distances during the event that ended at the ALERT Center fronting the City Hall.

The Philippine Red Cross – Valenzuela City Chapter assisted in the event by setting up three water stations along the runners’ route, along Puregold Malinta, PAXTON in Barangay Karuhatan and Chowking near the Our Lady of Fatima University in Barangay Marulas.

Aerobics and Zumba sessions were held immediately after the fun run, spearheaded by the office of First District Councilor Jennifer Pingree-Esplana.
