A new recreational space for all walks of life!

Creating more purposeful spaces that promote a fit and healthy lifestyle for the Valenzuelanos, the City of Valenzuela opens the “The Valenzuela Boardwalk”; a 1.3 km long floodwall with a linear park and bike trail spanning across Barangays Coloong, Tagalag, and Wawang Pulo. The city also launched its first walkathon with senior citizens and go-karting for the kids, on September 21, 2024.

The Valenzuela Boardwalk — a 1.3-kilometer-long and 4-meter-wide linear park and bike trail spanning across Barangays Coloong, Tagalag, and Wawang Pulo — is the newest addition to the city’s livable spaces designed for long runs, health walks, and cycling activities for the Pamilyang Valenzuelano. The linear park was originally established as a flood control dike to control the flow of water between the abovementioned barangays and Meycauayan, which later developed into a secured recreational area for pedestrian activities.

Mayor WES Gatchalian, Mrs. Tiffany Gatchalian and family, Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, and the City Council led the blessing and inauguration of the Valenzuela Boardwalk. This also marked the launch of the “1st Valenzuela Walkathon”, a fun walk that features about 200 Valenzuelano senior citizen members of OSCA-Alliance of Senior Citizens. Prior to the event, it was ensured that these elderly participants were fit for a long walk and with no serious health conditions.

The senior citizens traversed 600 meters, a portion of the boardwalk, to campaign for a healthy lifestyle and body movement among the elderly. To ensure their safety, the event also had water stations, medic, and rescue teams on standby. The walkathon concluded with a champion, first to third runners-up, and special awards such as recognizing the oldest participants to walk in the marathon.

Consequently, a free go-karting activity for kids ages 4 to 7 was also held on the other half of the boardwalk and will run for two (2) days from September 21 to 22. About ten (10) go-karts were sponsored by Pedway Go Kart Rental.

In his message, Mayor WES conveys that the boardwalk serves not only as a recreational space but also as one of the city’s flood-control initiatives. “Ito pong boardwalk natin ay hindi lamang pasyalan, kung hindi ho ay proteksyon para sa ating mga barangay.”

In its firm endeavors to transform Valenzuela City into a livable city, the Valenzuela Boardwalk is a space designed for the enrichment of the health and quality of life of the Pamilyang Valenzuelano; a place that inspires body movement, relaxation, and interpersonal connection among the citizens, young and old.

The Valenzuela Boardwalk is open daily from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM.
