Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin T. Gathalian has extended financial assistance to 17 families from Sitio 129 Mahabang Parang in Barangay Bignay whose homes were razed by fire at dawn last Saturday.

A total of PhP 75,000 in cash relief was disbursed by the City Government through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) to the victims in order to help them ease with their needs.

Each family received an amount of either PhP 5,000 or PhP 3,000 as assessed depending on the extent of the damage of their house.

Punong Barangay Mary Ann Victoriano and CSWDO staffs handed over the cash aid yesterday afternoon to the victims at the tents where the victims are staying.  The Mother of Barangay Bignay also distributed used clothes and visited the ruins of the homes after the distribution also to assess the damage.  “Magbibigay din kami ng financial assistance galing sa calamity fund n gamin barangay.  (We are also distributing financial assistance from our own calamity fund soon.)”  she said.

The victims were very thankful of the quick response of the local government.  “Hindi talaga namin alam kung saan kami kukuha ng pampatayo ulit ng mga bahay namin.  Mabuti na lang at marami ang umaksyon agad sa pangangailangan naming dito kaya malaki ang pasasalamat naming.  (We really have no means.  We are very thankful to those who took action to our needs here,” victim Senaida Viejo said,

Aside from aid coming from the barangay, victims are looking forward to the additional financial assistance coming from the First District Representative Congressman REX Gatchalian.
