In keeping with the City’s annual gift-giving tradition to the elderlies, a total of 55,466 Valenzuelano lolos and lolas are expected to receive special food packs from the City Government from July 3 to 5, 2020.

Dubbed as “Food Pack nina Lolo at Lola,” the initiative aims to keep the aged adults from the city’s 33 barangays happy and healthy amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The special food pack distribution employs the food voucher distribution system which was debuted during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) in March. Since June 10, the City’s distribution teams have been busy with door-to-door delivery of the food vouchers to ensure that the senior citizens remain at home. Only senior citizens registered with the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) by June 22 are eligible to receive the food packs.

Valenzuelano lolos and lolas are advised to request for their nearest kin to redeem their special gifts on their behalf. Representatives are required to bring a valid ID and the original OSCA-issued ID of the senior citizen.

Food packs can only be claimed at the designated date, time and redemption site indicated on the voucher to regulate the number of people at the 3S Centers where distributions are held.

The food packs contain rice, canned goods, instant noodles, sugar, and a box of calcium carbonate tablets. Additional canned goods were donated by CDO Foodsphere, Inc., one of the city’s top job providers and an advocate for closing the hunger gap.

“Food Pack nina Lolo at Lola” is an offshoot of the “Pasko Sa Hulyo Para Kay Lolo at Lola,” one of the projects to care for and pamper the senior citizens of Valenzuela City. Under the “Pasko Sa Hulyo” project, 54,527 lolos and lolas were gifted with two 5-kg.sacks of rice last year.

“Food Pack nina Lolo at Lola” joins the roster of Valenzuela City Food Voucher, Valenzuela City Market on Wheels, Valenzuela City Care Bag, and the Valenzuela City Day Care Nutri-Packs as an Alagang Valenzuelano project in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
