Ending the single-use plastic waste initiative, Valenzuela City joins the turnover of “Kuha sa Tingi” by RIPPLEx cleaning agents for the Valenzuelano sari-sari store owners, September 18, 2024.

Kuha sa Tingi by RIPPLEx program is an initiative by the Greenpeace Philippines and the Metro Manila Mayors’ Spouses Foundation (MMMSF). This program aims to eradicate the country's single-use plastic waste consumption — such as sachets — through the tingi system.

The turnover of free cleaning agents was held in Valenzuela City Hall with RIPPLEx, Greenpeace Philippines, MMMSF with Mayoress Tiffany Gatchalian — as one of its members — and the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (LEPIDO).

The ten (10) qualified Valenzuelano livelihood group leaders from different barangays received free dispensers of dishwashing liquid, multi-surface cleaner, liquid detergent, and fabric softener from RIPPLEx as the main supplier. Particularly, these cleaning agents are the most consumed products in a sachet. This will serve as a capital investment for the sari-sari store owners as additional income while raising awareness of using single-use plastics. The standard pricing will be:

  • Dishwashing Liquid – Php 4.00 per 30 ml

  • Multi-surface Cleaner – Php 5.00 per 30ml

  • Liquid Detergent – Php 4.00 per 30 ml

  • Fabric Softener – Php 5.50 per 30 ml

To buy the product in tingi, buyers should bring their recyclable plastic containers. This advocacy is to eradicate single-use plastic waste and to lessen the consumption of sachets. This program also promotes eco-friendliness in the city.

In 2022, Greenpeace Philippines started this initiative in San Juan City, followed by Quezon City, Pasig City, and Valenzuela City as the fourth city to participate in this advocacy. This will continue to expand to all cities in Metro Manila through MMMSF.

Moreover, the City Government of Valenzuela encourages the Pamilyang Valenzuelano to buy these products and join this advocacy of eradicating single-use plastic consumption in the city.
