Some 200 qualified students of Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science (ValMaSci) were granted a total of PhP 300,000 of financial aid from Valenzuela City, March 13.

As stated in City Ordinance No. 317, Series of 2016, or the "Financial Assistance to the First 100 Qualified Students of VALMASCI," as amended by Ordinance No. 468, Series of 2018, or the "Financial Assistance to the First 200 Qualified Students of ValMaSci," the City Government of Valenzuela will provide financial assistance to help the qualified underprivileged and deserving students with their basic educational needs.

The beneficiaries of the program will receive PhP 1,500 per month for the whole ten-month school year.

These 200 students who qualified for the program were assessed through first come first served basis and met the following criteria:

  1. Must be currently enrolled at the Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science (VALMASCI) and whose parents or legal guardian must be resident of the City of Valenzuela presenting their voter’s ID as competent proof thereof;

  2. Must have an average grade of at least eighty five percent (85%) in each subject;

  3. Must have a good moral record as certified by the school;

  4. Must have a certification from the Punong Barangay that the applicant belongs to a poor or indigent family;

  5. Must be assessed by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) that the applicant belongs to a poor or indigent family; and

  6. The parents or legal guardian of the applicant must be able to present a Certificate of No Income Tax Return.

The student beneficiaries of the financial aid are only permitted to avail it once per year and must reapply to be eligible for it the next year.

Moreover, Valenzuela City values and upholds quality and accessible education, hence gives merit to keen and worthy students. The city believes that assistance like this is an encouragement to all Valenzuelano learners to work smart and study competently.

Present during the aid distribution were Mayor WES Gatchalian, Councilor Cris Feliciano, Councilor Niña Lopez, Councilor Mickey Pineda, Office of the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Officer-in-charge Dr. Rustica Lorenzo, and ValMaSci Principal Juliana Tamayo-Alvares.
