Turning Manhole Covers into Pieces of Art; Marking strong partnership and heritage!
As part of the city’s month-long celebration of its 401st Founding Anniversary, the City Government of Valenzuela — administered by Mayor WES Gatchalian — together with Maynilad, unveiled the 400th Founding Anniversary Commemorative Manhole Cover at Casa de Polo and Polo Park in Brgy. Poblacion on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
Valenzuela City celebrated its 400th Founding Anniversary last year, November 12, 2023. To commemorate this special event, on its 401st Founding Anniversary, 40 (600mm) manhole covers were installed in some notable places around the city, with existing manhole access points:
-
Arkong Bato Boundary;
-
Casa de Polo and Polo Park;
-
Aguas Potables de Polo, Dalandanan;
-
Valenzuela Trade Center, Karuhatan;
-
MacArthur Highway corner, San Vicente St., Karuhatan [near Valenzuela City Hall];
-
Along Karuhatan Road [near Family Park]; and
-
National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, Marulas.
These visually stunning manhole covers symbolize the city’s rich 400 years of history and cultural heritage — its past, symbols, landmarks, people, and traditions. Across San Diego de Alcala Parish, the newly recognized historical structure by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), Mayor WES and Maynilad’s President and CEO, Mr. Ramoncito Fernandez graced the unveiling of the commemorative manhole covers. This shows a strong partnership with Maynilad — especially in doing corporate social responsibilities — providing the best service to their constituents.
Present at the event were Maynilad Corporate Affairs and Communication Division Head, Ms. Marie Antonette De Ocampo; Chief of Staff Arch. Benjie Gamaro; Head of Valenzuela City Cultural Affairs and Tourism Development Office (CATDO), Mr. Jonathan Balsamo; Brgy. Poblacion Punong Barangay, Kapitana Odet Fortaleza and Council; Brgy. Polo Punong Barangay, Kapitana Benet San Jose and Council; Maynilad employees; Ichivan Metal Corporation representatives; and the residents of Barangays Polo and Poblacion.
Mayor WES also led the tour of the Siglos de Gracia Exhibit, located inside Casa de Polo, showing significant religious traditions of the clans and families that built the now highly urbanized and award-winning city, Valenzuela. On the same day, Valenzuela City received its second (2nd) Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) award, extending good practices for the Pamilyang Valenzueano.
