As part of the celebration of the 401st Founding Anniversary of Valenzuela City, the City Government of Valenzuela under the leadership of Mayor WES Gatchalian, inaugurated the new College of Public Administration and Governance (CPAG) Building of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela (PLV), November 12. The momentous event was graced by the former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos, Jr.
The state-of-the-art CPAG building is situated at the former PLV main building, with a total lot area of 1,246 square meters. The 255 Million, 8-storey building houses the 25 Classrooms, 2 Computer Laboratories, a Lecture Hall, a Moot Court, a Library, Dean's Office, 2 Faculty Rooms, Clinic, a Multi-purpose Room, among others.
In his message, Mayor WES Gatchalian expressed the city’s profound commitment to the Valenzuelano students, “The new building is more than stone and steel… It stands as a testament to our dedication to investing in the minds, hearts, and futures of the students who will walk these halls…. We open doors to a legacy — a future built on the values of leadership, discipline, transparency, and good governance.”[Ang bagong gusali ay higit pa sa bato at bakal… Ito ay isang patunay ng aming dedikasyon sa pamumuhunan sa isip, puso, at kinabukasan ng mga mag-aaral na lalakad sa mga bulwagan na ito…. Binubuksan namin ang mga pinto sa isang legacy — isang kinabukasan na binuo sa mga halaga ng pamumuno, disiplina, transparency, at mabuting pamamahala.]
Mayor WES also acknowledged Senator WIN Gatchalian for supporting and helping the city in funding the PLV-CPAG building.
On the other hand, former DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, the City’s Guest of Honor, congratulated Valenzuela for making education a priority. He also mentioned that the benchmark of good governance is in Valenzuela City.
Moreover, the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela opened as a city-funded, public tertiary school in 2002, and is currently celebrating its 22nd founding anniversary. Started with only 450 students, the PLV is currently nurturing about 12,000 students. 572 of these are studying Bachelor of Science in Public Administration.
Indeed a world-class university with highly competitive students, PLV is also a home of licensure exam topnotchers and achievers. Recently, PLV Social Workers acquired a 100% institutional passing rate for the 2024 Licensure Examination for Social Workers.
Meanwhile, this remarkable inauguration of the new PLV-CPAG building was witnessed and graced by notable guests and personalities in the field of Public Administration and Local Government, such as University of the Philippines, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Development Academy of the Philippines, and Galing Pook Foundation to name a few.
Also joining the event were Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad Borja, 2nd District Congressman Eric Martinez, City Councilors, DILG - Valenzuela Director Sudi Valencia, PLV President Dr. Nedeña Torralba, and PLV-CPAG Dean Dr. Michville Rivera.
