Paying homage to the father and namesake of the city, the City of Valenzuela, led by Mayor WES Gatchalian, conducted a flag and wreath-laying ceremony for the 154th birth anniversary of Dr. Pio Valenzuela; commemorated in his historical house at Barangay Pariancillo Villa, July 11, 2023.

The momentous flag and wreath-laying ceremony is a yearly practice every 11th of July, to celebrate the birth anniversary of Dr. Pio Valenzuela, a respected figure of the city. Now that he has approached his 154th year, the city, along with the officials and a family representative of Dr. Pio, gathered in the recently inaugurated Museo ni Dr. Pio Valenzuela to pay tribute to the renowned war hero. They offered wreaths of flowers before the image of Dr. Pio Valenzuela.

From the town of Polo, Dr. Pio was one of the venerable officials who served the Katipunan during the Philippine Revolution. His notable contributions created a significant impact on his fellow countrymen; worked alongside our war heroes, provided free medical assistance to ailed citizens, and served as the first Municipal President of Polo during the American period and Governor of Bulacan for two terms. These patriotic acts of Dr. Pio are continually memorialized by the current and future generations.

Alongside Mayor WES, the ceremonies were also led by Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, Councilors Cris Feliciano-Tan, Sel Sabino-Sy, Niña Lopez, and Ricar Enriquez, Punong Barangay of Pariancillo Villa, Mr. Wilfredo Panes, and family representative, Mr. Jose Valenzuela Jr.

The celebration of the birth anniversary of Dr. Pio Valenzuela is a nod to the city’s commitment to bringing the Pamilyang Valenzuelanos closer to their historical roots and paying due honor to the war hero. Serving as an important reminder to keep the culture and the town thriving, this event shall also ignite the preparations for the 400th founding anniversary of the City of Valenzuela.
