Some 246 qualified Valenzuelanos received the Livelihood Assistance through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office at ALERT Multi-Purpose Hall, Barangay Malinta,  September 21.

Livelihood Assistance Grant (LAG) is one of the rehabilitation and recovery efforts of the National Government to eligible individuals whose livelihoods were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. These are those who want to establish a livelihood project or with already existing microenterprises and small businesses but are short of capital or their capital was depleted while battling the pandemic. LAG is a financial support of maximum Php 15,000 which will serve as seed capital.

These Valenzuelano beneficiaries from District 1 and 2 were thoroughly selected and undergone series of assessments and validations by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

CSWDO Head Ms. Dorothy Go Evangelista appealed to beneficiaries to carefully use the aid from the DSWD, “Isa lang po ang pakiusap ko sa inyo, gamitin nang maayos. Huwag nating sayangin. Gamitin ninyo para sa inyong kabuhayan, pang araw-araw. Limitado lang ang ating pondo kaya sana magamit nang maayos.” (I have only one request from you, use it properly. Let's not waste it. Use it for your livelihood, for your every day. Our funds are limited so hopefully they will be used well.)

Moreover, representatives from the office of Senator Bong Go were also present in the event to impart more information about the Malasakit Centers Act. They announced that through the Malasakit Centers established within the premises of around 150 government hospitals nationwide, the indigent and financially incapacitated patients can apply and request for medical and financial assistance.

The office of Senator Go also prepared snacks and raffle prizes for the beneficiaries. Several Valenzuelanos were fortunate to take home a bicycle, an android phone, rubber shoes, among others.

The LAG was held through the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) and was made possible through the coordination of the City Government of Valenzuela via the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

The SLP is one of the main programs of the DSWD that aims to provide services to strengthen or provide the ability, skills, and experience of an individual in earning a living and doing business. SLP promotes increasing the standard of living of Filipinos by providing training, equipment, and capital to start a business.
