Valenzuela City continues to involve the parents in fortifying the quality of education in the city by holding the 2nd Nanay-Teacher Parenting Camp for Daycare at Tanza Oasis Hotel, Cavite, September 16-18, 2016.
The parenting camp, a part of the city government’s Education 360° Investment Program, aims to equip the participants with proper knowledge and training in the upcoming school-based Nanay-Teacher Parenting Camp this year. The said school-based parenting camp is expected to be participated by 9,600 parents from different daycare centers in the city.
In collaboration with the Division of City Schools-Valenzuela and Synergeia Foundation, the Nanay-Teacher Program brings back the nurturing guidance of parents in the educational progress of their children. The three-day camp trained the 264 nanay-teacher participants in promoting positive behaviors and building independence among their children. Speakers from Synergeia Foundation and Nanay-Teacher Dream Team also conducted a capacity building workshop to tackle more about the different parenting skills and style that will suit their children.
Mayor REX Gatchalian thanked the efforts of the Nanay-Teachers for their volunteerism in the project. He stressed that the goal of the parenting camp is to serve as a backbone and support system for parents to better monitor their child’s progress in school. The local chief executive also assured the parents that their participation in the city government’s program will not be put into waste. In recognition of their efforts and participation to the parenting camp, the local government will provide school packages based on the parents’ attendance. Daycare centers whose parents’ participation rate is 75% can either choose a quality sound system plus additional educational toys/learning materials for 100% participatory rating, or they can opt for an air conditioning unit for 75% attendance and an additional quality sound system for 100% attendance rating.
Last year, a total of 73 LED TV, 610 big books and 2 DVD players were granted for daycare centers in the city. 555 LED TV and 174 ceiling fans were also awarded to big, medium and small schools of the Parenting Camp in Elementary level, while 69 LCD projectors, 126 laptops, 207 LED TV and 12 air conditioning units were granted to big, medium and small schools of the Parenting Camp in High School level.
In addition to the 76 daycare centers in the city, Mayor REX also announced the construction of more centers to lessen the number of students per daycare center and give them more adequate space conducive for learning. The city government plans to construct additional daycare centers in Gen. T. de Leon, Disiplina Village in Bignay, Ugong, Balangkas, Wawang Pulo, Pasolo and Polo.
