Valenzuela City welcomes July with a new goal – a higher target for the number of individuals tested for COVID-19 and not stopping on its localized targeted mass testing as it sees a clearer, better dimension of where the City is on its fight against COVID-19.

From March to June 30, 2020, Valenzuela City's total number of swab tests, including reswabs, is now at 10,977.

Of the total number of swab tests, 9,365 are from the locally procured test kits processed in the city's partner laboratories, while 1,612 swab samples were processed from different public laboratories and the others.

On a per person basis, Valenzuela City now has 10,113 individuals tested using the RT-PCR tests, accounting to 1.52% of the city's projected 2020 population of 664,613. With this data from the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU), the City Government of Valenzuela now targets at least 2% of its projected 2020 population – hoping to put efforts and resources into greater capacities as the City gradually opens its economy following health standards and guidelines set forth by the Department of Health (DOH).

“We will not stop testing. Our next target [is] 2% of the population. All tests used are PCR tests,” Mayor REX Gatchalian shared.

On the local government unit’s efforts in the localized targeted mass testing, Mayor REX said that “We managed to somehow keep our deaths at a low, meaning we are testing ahead and we were isolating people, and we were putting them in hospitals if they needed medical attention.”

Valenzuela’s mass testing also includes the Valenzuela Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Valenzuela City Police, Barangay Health Station Workers, CESU and the City Health Office, Valenzuela City Jail (BJMP), Valenzuela City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (VCDRRMO), Valenzuela City Emergency Hospital, employees from the City External Services Office and Barangay Council and employees.

As of 10:00pm of June 30, Valenzuela City has 636 confirmed cases, 302 active cases, 313 recoveries and the number of deaths at 21.
