The City Government organized a free exclusive live via-satellite viewing of the American Idol Grand Finale, for the Valenzuelano Youth to show their full support to the 16-year old Filipina-Mexican-American singing idol, Jessica Sanchez.

Hundreds of her supporters rushed to the big screen set at the Valenzuela City Auditorium not merely for entertainment but to likewise pay tribute to the “vocal powerhouse” who has electrified the imagination of the entire country week after week with her jaw-dropping performances in the hit reality TV show, American Idol.

Mayor WIN Gatchalian believes that “Jessica’s determination and discipline to reach for her dream are traits worthy of emulation by the youth.  Her accomplishment of being on the Top 2 of the number 1 talent show in the world is already an inspiration not only for Valenzuelano youth but for the all Filipinos.”

Valenzuela City has a strong program for the Valenzuelano youth who have inclination toward performance arts through the Valenzuela City Center for the Performing Arts (VCCPA) which holds an annual production of original plays and conducts “Arts in the City,” a summer camp for children and youth which offer free workshops on on visual and performing arts.  A proof of Mayor WIN’s drive to enrich the children’s innate showmanship skills.

Sanchez has been practicing and perfecting her craft since she was a child.  She is the first contestant of Asian lineage to battle it out in the finals. She is also the first contender with Filipino roots to figure in the AI finale, bettering the record of former AI contestant Jasmine Trias who placed third in Season 3.  AI Judge Randy Jackson described Jessica as one of the best singers in America ever.

Mayor WIN joined his constituents in anticipating the result and proudly remarked in Filipino that, “Jessica represents the honor of our country and she also symbolizes the talents of the Filipino youth.”

There was a unanimous reaction among the audience when Philips was announced the winner – for the Valenzuelanos, Jessica Sanchez remains their “idol.”
