Valenzuela City Hosts Local Ronda Pilipinas Leg

144 riders competed in the local leg of the international biking tournament Ronda Pilipinas on Saturday, February 8.
The riders raced around a 17 km overall course that started in the Valenzuela City Government Complex at 8 a.m. and completed 20 laps.
Biker Ysmael Gendrano finished first against the 58 riders for the All-Valenzuelano category, which was exclusively held for Valenzuela City residents; while Armil de Jesus bested 86 other riders in the Amateur/Ex Pro/Executive category which was open for neighboring cities.
City Mayor REX Gatchalian thanked organizers for including Valenzuela City as one of the race itineraries. “It is our pleasure to be part of this big event,” Mayor REX said.
The 82 competitors of the Ronda Pilipinas also kicked off the seventh stage of the race’s international leg at the city hall grounds at 10 am. Local riders accompanied the riders in the neutral ride to Bulacan. The official race began after 16.75 kilometers mark, in Balagtas, Bulacan. The stage ended in Tarlac.
Ronda Pilipinas Race Administration Director Joaquin Yabut said the seventh stage has the longest distance of 172 kilometers.
Korean rider Im Jae Yeon of the Ibyajeon team finished first in a time of four hours and 52 minutes for the stage individual sprint category while two-time Ronda Pilipinas individual champion Mike Galedo of 7-Eleven maintained the lead in the overall individual classification category.
The four-year-old international biking tournament started this year in February 2 and will end on February 16 in Marikina City to complete the 14 stages.
