The recent EDSA “hulidap,” or kidnap-extortion allegedly perpetrated by nine police officers, prompted the City Government of Valenzuela and the Valenzuela City Police (VCP) to mount a Peace and Order Summit to assure city residents that nothing of this kind will happen in the locality.
In a recent summit dubbed as, “Payapang Valenzuela, Ngayon Na,” NCR Police Office P/Dir Carmelo E. Valmoria stood before 500 local government officials and civil society representatives and explained to them how the police force is presently responding to the issue.
Valenzuela City Mayor REX Gatchalian challenged the police officers in his speech, citing that “there should be no more excuses (for the cops not to do their jobs) because we ensured that all (they) will need is already shouldered by the taxpayers of Valenzuela City.”
“We won’t turn our backs to the VCP – we will provide the equipment, they just have to provide the dedication,” Mayor REX added.
Valenzuela City Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento attested that the support extended by the local government of Valenzuela City significantly helped his men in the performance of their duties.
P/Supt. Armamento shared the current strategies being implemented by the VCP through an AVP entitled, “The VCPS Transformation Journey: Tayo Na, Pulis Valenzuela.” The video showed some of VCP’s programs that are intertwined the city government’s peace and order initiatives such as the Valenzuela City Police on Wheels (VPOW), Bantay-Ilog, and Taskforce Disiplina.
A forum on peace and order concerns culminated the summit which was moderated by P/Insp. Gina Fariñas.
This first of its kind summit was graced by First District Representative Cong. WIN Gatchalian and other city government officials, P/CSupt. Edgar L. Layon of the NCR Northern Police District and CAMANA chiefs of police, and different representatives from Valenzuela City’s business, education, religious, and civic sectors.
