Family members and relatives of the victims of the fire that razed Kentex factory last May 13 gathered at the Valenzuela City Hall on Sunday, September 13, for the distribution of scholarships and burial benefits.

The program saw the families and relatives receiving a copy of Ordinance No. 220, Series of 2015, granting one immediate family member a full scholarship at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela or the Valenzuela Polytechnic College.

Under Ordinance No. 221, Series of 2015, some of the deceased Kentex fire victims were also granted perpetual rights to be buried at the Arkong Bato and Karuhatan Public Cemeteries. Renewal and processing fees for the burial were also waived.

During the event, Mayor REX Gatchalian assured the families of the victims that the city will continue to extend help and provide assistance for them.

On May 13, 72 workers at the shoe factory Kentex Manufacturing Corporation in Barangay Ugong were killed after sparks from the welding done on one of the factory’s roll-up gate set nearby containers of chemicals on fire.
