Christmas carols, dancing lights, small sweet voices, joyful laughter and enchanting smiles filled the Valenzuela City People’s Park Aero Circle as Mayor REX Gatchalian, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian and other city government officials dedicated the Tree of Hope Lighting Ceremony to the children, November 24.
Anchored in this year’s theme, “Pasko para sa mga Chikiting”, the 50-foot Christmas tree was decorated with customized toys, gifts and a Christmas village which functions as its base. It was also flourished with Christmas balls and lights making it more appealing to the children and kids at heart.
According to Michael King Urieta of the Park Events Division, the local government wants to highlight that every child plays a vital role for being the heart of the Valenzuelano family.
“We believe that [the] children bind and make a family stronger and that a strong family makes up a stronger society,” Urieta said.
Aside from the Tree of Hope, Valenzuela City People’s Park was also transformed and made more inviting through glowing lamp posts, white trees, light-emitting diode (LED) raindrops that are forming snow illusions and a human-sized LED greeting of “Maligayang Pasko, Valenzuelano” beside the Aero Circle.
Fe S. Lopez, 45 years old, from Barangay Gen. T. de Leon and a mother of 6, has witnessed the Tree of Hope Lighting Ceremony for years and still chose to join this year’s celebration.
“May sarili naman tayo [tree lighting]. Kaysa pumunta ka pa sa ibang lugar, dito na [lang] sa sariling atin. Saka makikita mong mabuti na lang talaga taga-Valenzuela ka sa ganda (We have our own tree-lighting. Instead of going to other places, we chose to celebrate in our city. Through this event, it made me realize how lucky I am to be a Valenzuelano),” Lopez shared.
The traditional Tree of Hope Lighting Ceremony starts in 2004 wherein it is yearly dedicated to a certain group or sector. This activity also marks the beginning of the city’s Christmas season celebration.
