Annually, the local government puts a spotlight on the companies that have invaluably contributed to the continuous progress of the City and the improvement of the economic status of Valenzuelanos.  This year, as Valenzuela City marks its 21^st Charter Day, it once again recognized the 20 Top Taxpayers and 23 Top Job Providers, February 14.

During the Top Taxpayers and Top Job Providers Awarding Ceremony held at the Valenzuela City People's Park Amphitheater, Mayor REX Gatchalian thanked the Valenzuelanos for paying their taxes and contributing to the national coffers. He said, "Maliit o malaking negosyante ka man, ang importante may kontribusyon ka sa ating lungsod. (It does not matter whether you're a small-time or a big shot entrepreneur; what's important is that you are making a contribution to our city.)"

The Mayor also took the opportunity to showcase the City's latest projects such as the Disiplina Village Lingunan, the Metropolitan Trial Court Building, and the Valenzuela City Family Park, which came to fruition through the taxpayers’ money.

Aside from the regular five Top Job Provider Award categories: Direct Hire Companies Within Valenzuela, Direct Hire Companies Outside Valenzuela, Manpower Agencies, Job Providers in Relation to the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) Program, and Special Awards in different areas; another category – Top Job Provider Overseas – was added to the roster.

Assisting Mayor REX in giving out the awards to the top job providers were Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Head, Ms. Josephine Osea, District 1 Councilors Ghogo Deato Lee, Ricardo Ricarr Enriquez, Rovin Andrew Feliciano, District 2 Representative Cong. Eric Martinez, and Vice Mayor Lorena Natividad-Borja.

The top taxpayers, on the other hand, are classified to four categories based on the taxes paid per scale of business: (1) Micro Scale Category, for companies with up to PhP 3 million in assets; (2) Small Scale Category, for those with assets worth more than PhP 3 million to PhP 15 million; (3) Medium Scale Category for companies with more than PhP 15 million to PhP 100 million, and (4) Large Scale Category, for those with assets above PhP 100 million.

Joining the Mayor and Cong. Martinez in handing the recognitions to the City’s top taxpayers were Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) Head, Atty. Renchi May Padayao, City Treasurer, Ms. Adelia Soriano, Person with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) Action Officer for District 2, Ms. Niña Lopez, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation President, Coun. Chiqui Carreon, and District 1 Coun. Marlon Paulo C. Alejandrino.

As a treat to the awardees and the Valenzuelanos, the City also held a special Valentine’s Day concert featuring The Vowels They Orbit, Gracenote, Callalily, and Ely Buendia.
