After 9 years of being the father of Valenzuela City, Mayor REX Gatchalian passed the torch of the Mayoral position to Mayor-elect WES Gatchalian.

Mayor REX Gatchalian first seated as the City Mayor in 2013, replacing his brother who's now a Senator Sherwin Gatchalian. He whole-heartedly accepted the responsibility despite the pressure of the high standard of service that Senator WIN set.

Newly-seated chief executive on the other hand, Mayor WES vows to make the city to be as livable as it is. In his inaugural speech, he said that he will continue all the projects that his brother has started — specifically the Education 360 Degrees Investment Program.

“[Sa aking administrasyon], hangad ko na mas kilalanin ang ating lungsod hindi lang bilang Industrial City, kundi bilang isang Livable City”, Mayor Wes said. [In my administration], I aspire to better recognize our city not only as an Industrial City, but as a Livable City].

For almost a decade of sevice, Mayor REX made multiple projects for the welfare of every Valenzuelano as well as improved the existing projects of his brother. Building on the gains of the past administration, then Mayor REX anchored his own brand of leadership and excellent service on Five Pillars of Good Governance namely Education, Health and Social Services, Housing, Job Generation, and Liveability and Disaster Preparedness. He is also an awardee of Gawad Galing Pook, a prestigious award-giving body that recognizes excellence and creativity of the different initiatives produced by the local government units.

In 2015, he received his first ever Galing Pook award for his brainchild program for education development in the city — Education 360 Degrees Investment Program, a holistic, community-driven and student-centric approach to educational problems.

In his three (3) terms of being the Chief Executive of the City, Mayor REX received a total of 6 Galing Pook awards to add in his accolades. Here are the Galing Pook awards he received through his briliance.

·      Disiplina Village – Bagong Bahay, Bagong Buhay (2017)

·      The Valenzuela City Comprehensive Safety And Security Plan (2018)

·      Valenzuela Live (2021) – First ever local channel for education in the country that includes the lessons with the same standard. It is designed as a response for the need of the students to learn through online learning delivery.

·      Tagalag Fishing Village (2021) – It is now one of the tourist attraction inside the Valenzuela City, inclusively developed to provide the locals the traditional fishing experience for food.

·      PASPAS Permit – It is the first ever end-to-end online platform with a full range of the different business-related permits. It aims to stop the corruption in the government and make the government transaction run faster unlike the accustomed.

Mayor WES Gatchalian sat in the city’s top executive position on June 30, 2022, at 12:01pm bearing the flag of the Gatchalian’s brand of progressive leadership. On the other hand, Cong. REX will start serving as the representative of the 1^st District of Valenzuela City.
