Valenzuelanos from Barangay Polo and neighboring barangays will soon enjoy a modernized and improved public market as the rehabilitation of Pamilihang Bayan ng Polo is underway.

It has been a decade old since its last rehabilitation, Valenzuela City Mayor WES Gatchalian personally inspected the Pamilihang Bayan ng Polo and ordered the necessary upgrade of the public market. Mayor WES announced the rehabilitation in a public consultation and general assembly on Monday, September 5.

The City Mayor reiterated the importance of the efficient collection of monthly rentals from market vendors, “Suportahan niyo kami by paying on time ng mga kailangang bayaran. Pag collection equivalent niyan ay renovation, after renovation ay mas maganda at kumportableng serbisyo sa inyong kliyente. Mas lalakas ang inyong negosyo.”(Support us by paying on time what needs to be paid. The collection equivalent of that is a renovation, after renovation is better and more comfortable service to your client. Your business will grow more.)

The rehabilitation of Pamilihang Polo ng Bayan will be under TM Abad Construction Corp. and guaranteed the vendors that the construction will be completed in eight months. The estimated budget for Polo Public Market upgrade is around Php 14.5 million.

In the public consultation, officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Councilor Ghogo Deato-Lee retaliated all the questions of the market vendors. They explained that they studied the market vendors’ timetable and emphasized that the construction will commence every 1 pm when the market is on break. They also stressed that vendors’ businesses will not be affected during the rehabilitation.

Moreover, Councilor Ghogo Deato Lee, Chairman of Committee on Market and Slaughterhouse pleaded the market vendors to be disciplined vendors once the upgrade of the market is completed, “Hinihiling po namin na dumating ang panahon na matapos na, dapat ay maging disiplinado tayong  bawat market vendors. Kung ano man ang paghihigpit namin sa pagiging malinis at disiplinado, eto po ay kailangan upang mapanatili ang pagbabago sa palengke.” (We request that when the time comes for the construction to be completed, each of the market vendors should be disciplined. Whatever we restrict to being clean and disciplined, this is what is needed to maintain the change in the market.)

Joining Mayor WES Gatchalian and Councilor Ghogo Deato-Lee in the public consultation were market vendors from Polo Market, officials from Department of Public Works and Highways CAMANAVA, officials from Polo Market, Polo Punong Barangay Rhoel De Guzman, City Planning and Development Office Head Josie Acurantes, and City Treasurer Adelia Soriano.

The Pamilihang Bayan ng Polo was constructed and established in the term of the former Mayor Santiago de Guzman in the year 1990 to 1991. The rehabilitation of the Polo Market will be the biggest market rehabilitation program of Mayor WES Gatchalian in his first term.
