Ingrained with a helping hand, the City Government of Valenzuela mobilizes relief operations for the victims of Super Typhoon Karding in several areas devastated by the typhoon in Quezon Province through the VC Cares Plus Program of the City on October 6.

The 9th City Council of Valenzuela City approved Resolution No. 2587, Series of 2022 entitled “A Resolution Authorizing City Mayor, Honorable Weslie T. Gatchalian, to Grant Financial Assistance, in the Total Amount of Four Million Three Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php 4,300,000.00) as Humanitarian and Disaster Relief Assistance, in the Form of Cash or In Kind, to Areas Affected by Typhoon Karding, Specifically in the Municipalities of Polillo, Patnanungan, Panukulan, Jomalig, Burdeos, and General Nakar, Quezon Province, Which Shall be Taken from the General Fund of the City Government of Valenzuela” last October 3, 2022.

The breakdown of the funds for the relief operations are as follows:

Super Typhoon Karding, the 11th Tropical Cyclone which entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility in 2022, is believed to hit Central Luzon the hardest, thereby causing several injuries, property damages, and casualties in the area. Super Typhoon Karding made a landfall at 5:30pm of September 25 in Burdeos, Quezon which caused heavy rainfalls and fierce winds in several areas.

National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) declared 43 damaged infrastructures amounting to Php 304,245,310 in Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and CAR., while Php 3,053,218,120.04 worth of agriculture were damaged according to Departent of Agriculture (DA). With more than 700 damaged house, 600 damaged boats, and Php 186 million worth of damaged agriculture, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Quezon Province headed by presiding officer Vice Governor Third Alcala passed a resolution declaring municipalities of Polillo, Patnanungan, Jomalig, Burdeos and General Nakar in a state of calamity to release Php 70 million quick response fund to swiftly assist the typhoon victims in the said areas.

With this, Valenzuela City’s VC Cares Plus Program continues to pursue its mission of providing a helping hand by extending assistance both in cash and in kinds amounting to a total of Php 4.3 million to its friends in Quezon Province. 1,300 backpacks are also scheduled to be distributed to the students affected in the Municipality of Panukulan, Quezon.
