The City Government of Valenzuela, led by Mayor WES Gatchalian, spearheaded the distribution of PhP 20,000 in financial assistance to each of the ten (10) house owners, and PhP 10,000 to each of the sixteen (16) renters who were preemptively evacuated in Agustin St., Brgy. Karuhatan, May 28, 2024.

Following the occurrence of damages and scouring on the concrete road caused by water seepage, immediate preemptive evacuation measures were implemented for the safety and welfare of the residents. They were temporarily relocated to the Malinta Junior High School campus on May 26, 2024.

The financial aid aims to help the affected families with temporary shelter expenses during the rectification of the road and drainage in Agustin Street and the construction of the retaining wall in the city government lot, where the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing the 4-storey Legislative Building with basement parking. These efforts are anticipated to take approximately six months, during which the affected area will remain closed to the general public, except for pedestrian access by residents. It was also agreed that the residents shall relocate temporarily during the time-being to ensure their safety.

The contractor in charge of the DPWH project, J. Simeon Construction Firm, also provided financial assistance amounting to PhP 30,000 to the owners and PhP 20,000 to the renters.

In addition to the financial assistance from the City Government, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has extended support by providing family food packs (FFPs), grocery packs, family kits, and kitchen kits to each family. The Office of Senator WIN Gatchalian is also set to extend financial assistance to the residents of Agustin Street.

Mayor WES has emphasized the city's dedication to maintaining close communication with the families, providing regular updates on the progress of the measures discussed. The City Government also assures the residents that the contractor will be required to expedite construction efforts, particularly during favorable weather conditions, to ensure the immediate repair of the area.

The Valenzuela City Government remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of every Valenzuelano.
