Equipping public school teachers with the rightful reading techniques and teaching approach, Valenzuela City, in partnership with Synergeia Foundation and DepEd Valenzuela, conducted comprehensive training for teachers in preparation for the Valenzuela Reading Camp 2024 at WES Events Space Lawang Bato, July 4, 2024.
Sixty-four (64) teachers, also known as “reading coordinators” underwent comprehensive teaching training in Valenzuela Reading Camp 2024 Training for Teachers. These teachers were assigned to be the main facilitators for the upcoming Reading Camp. As the primary partners, the Synergeia Foundation, headed by Dr. Milwida Guevara, and the Office of the Vice Mayor spearheaded the training session.
Each reading coordinator was provided with modular kits detailing the correct teaching approach for students who experience challenges in reading and pronunciation – particularly those who fall under “frustrated readers” and “non-readers”. Dr. Milwida Guevara personally trained the teachers about specific techniques such as phonemes or correct pronunciation of letters and syllables, as well as necessary methods to engage their students to read words accurately. Dr. Guevara emphasized the importance of being creative in teaching; to let their students learn through activating their five senses, playing fun games, and moving the body.
The training was conducted for one day only, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The following day, another training will be held for 128 Teacher’s Aides, mainly PLV student volunteers to prepare them for Reading Camp. Two teacher’s aides were assigned for each teacher to assist them in implementing the program.
Education 360 Degrees Action Officer Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja also extended her support to dedicated teachers of the Reading Camp. She stressed how these teachers will be the hope of the struggling students in learning how to read properly and, ultimately prepare, them for the future.
Reading Camp is a branch of the Education 360 Degrees Investment Program which provides assistive learning to frustrated readers and non-readers of Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6. This program extends a helping hand for young students to gain an understanding of the fundamentals of reading and pronunciation and ultimately promote their confidence and upscale their literacy skills.
The Valenzuela Reading Camp 2024 will launch on July 10, 2024. A total of 1,246 assessed student-beneficiaries are expected to participate in this program.
