Buháy ang sining sa búhay ng Valenzuelanos!

Proving that the life of art never runs dry in its culture and tradition, the City of Valenzuela launched the “Arts In the City 2024” program which features a series of free art workshops and activities for the Valenzuelano youth, starting from July 15 to August 24, 2024.

Now in its 17th year, the City Government of Valenzuela, through the Cultural Affairs and Tourism Development Office (CATDO) once again launched “Arts In the City 2024: Valenzuela Art Workshop”, bringing back the City’s significant celebration of its passion to arts.

Several Valenzuelano youths participated in its series of workshops and recitals mainly in visual arts, instrument and singing, acting, and dance. The call for registration of participants was announced last May 20, 2024, which yielded approximately 1,080 participants and almost 600 reserved students. Continuing the tradition of making art accessible to more Valenzuelano youths, the series of workshops, mentored by seasoned professionals, in Arts In the City are all free of charge.

In its starting week, the Visual Arts Department kickstarted its first activity of the week-long celebration — the Visual Arts Exhibit. This exhibit was held at ValACE Malinta and featured several artworks of various media made by children and teenager artists. It will run until July 27, offering the chance to more citizens to witness the diverse creativity and artistic skills of the Valenzuelano youth.

Meanwhile, in the following week, several activities are in line. Piano, singing for kids and teens, ukulele and guitar-playing, acting for kids and teens, and dance recitals are scheduled from July 19 to 21. A visual arts culminating activity with Swedish artist, Camilla Öster Yu, will take place on July 24, 2024; and for comics enthusiasts, the first-ever Comic Con is coming to Valenzuela City this August 23-24, 2024.

The program Arts In the City was first started through the Valenzuela City Center for Performing Arts, a breakthrough of former city mayor and now Senator WIN Gatchalian through Executive Order 2006-036. Beginning as a training program for musical theater, the program eventually evolved into a yearly multi-arts workshop for the Pamilyang Valenzuelanos.

The City of Valenzuela continuously works on promoting projects that nurture the Valenzuelano youth’s passion for arts and hone their innate skills and talents.
