Comic book nerds, figure collectors, and anime fans — unite!

Stepping up art appreciation — in all kinds of medium — to another level, the City Government of Valenzuela brings to the city its ‘1st Valenzuela Comic Con’ which features a variety of comic books, toy collectibles, anime art merchandise, and comic-making workshops ready in store for Valenzuelanos, young and young-at-heart! 1st Valenzuela Comic Con is now open to the public for two (2) days at ValACE Malinta, September 27-28, 2024.

The 1st Valenzuela Comic Con is one of the anticipated programs launched under the months-long celebration of Arts In the City: Valenzuela Art Workshop. This convention was organized through the collaboration of the local government — under the initiative of Lunsod Lunsad — Department of Trade and Industry, and the non-government partners namely Filbar’s, Pandayan Bookshop, Inc., and Samahan ng mga Kartunista ng Pilipinas.

Mayoress Tiffany Gatchalian, Atty. Gio Franco Gomez, Program Manager of the Department of Trade and Industry's (DTI) Creative Industries Development Office, DTI-NCR Regional Director, Mr. Winston T. Singun, Managing Director of Pandayan Bookshop, Inc., Mr. Gerardo Cabochan, Jr. (Represented by Mr. Eric Cabochan), President of Filbar's, Mr. Jacob Cabochan, President of Samahang Kartunista ng Pilipinas, Arch. Edison Ching Padilla altogether led the ribbon-cutting ceremony. This marked the beginning of 1st Valenzuela Comic Con with various booths now open to the public.

Aiming to gather several comic books, anime, and art enthusiasts together, Valenzuela Comic Con features the sale of various comic books, graphic novels, Funko Pop figures, Pop Mart blind box figures, and other anime merchandise from Filbar’s. Komiket also featured several Filipino comic books while Pandayan Bookshop also provided booths for books and art materials. Alongside, several local artists also showcased their craft and printed digital illustrations in the event.

The 2-day convention also hosted free workshops specifically in caricature, character illustration, and comic-strip making provided by invited local artists.

Booths and workshops at 1st Valenzuela Comic Con will be open to the public for free from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Training Hall of ValACE Malinta

To embrace love of arts through showcasing artistic skills and reinforcing values of creativity and human ingenuity among the Pamilyang Valenzuelano are the key inspirations of the LGU in the launch of the city’s first-ever comic con.
