As part of the City Government of Valenzuela’s aim to enhance the local police’ existing response procedures on peace and order, 40 brand new single 200cc Yamaha motorcycle units and three (3) Isuzu Dmax Patrol/ Disaster were turned over to Philippine National Police of Valenzuela City (PNP-Valenzuela) last Saturday, June 22, 2013.
These security and weather vehicles are the farewell presents of the outgoing chief executive, Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian, to support the city police‘s Tactical Motorized Riders (TMR) group created by the Acting Chief of Police P/SSUPT Rhoderick C. Armamento. The group has started monitoring the entire city the day the motorcycles were distributed to them.
The TMR conducts 24/7 monitoring on the entire city, particularly the hot spots, and the exits and entrance points in the city, including the small roads and streets which are not passable by the PNP patrol cars. These policemen will undergo trainings or refreshers courses under the National Capital Region (NCR) Highway Patrol Group.
A volunteer group called “Valenzuela Riders Against Criminals” was also created with around 1,000 members from the Valenzuela City Riders Group. They act as support “force multipliers” to the TMR to maintain peace and order and ensure safety of the general public from various criminal elements such as carnappers, hold-uppers, snatchers and even akyat-bahay gangs. They do this by going rounds in the entire city and reporting any irregularities seen.
Mayor WIN thanked Director Joel Ma. Alvarez for detailing 100 additional policemen in Valenzuela City, which he deems an effective formula toward crime reduction. He shared that, "Since we have increased our city's police force, our crime rate dropped by 30%. To sustain this improvement, we continue to purchase new vehicles to mobilize our increasing number of police personnel."
Apart from establishing peace and order, the additional three patrol cars shall be used for search, evacuation, recovery, relief and rescue operation.
It was just this April when I consulted our city mayor of our need for additional vehicles, particularly high end motorcycles, for us to catch felons, particularly those who are riding-in-tandem criminals, who are able to escape crime scenes through the use of the same. My request was barely two months ago, and yet it was promptly granted.” P/SSUPT Armamento happily said.
Joining the turn-over are National Police District Director, P/CSUPT Joel Ma. T. Alvarez, , NCRPO Regional Chief Directorial Staff Dennis J Pena, NCR Regional Highway Patrol Unit P/CSUPT Manny L. Lopez, VC PCP Commanders and station staff officers, VC Bantay Bayan volunteers, Citizen’s Crime Watch, TAZ Riders, Batang X Group, Road Runner Group of Riders, Enter City Riders Club, Marulas Riders and Active Riders Club.
Reverend Father Rufino Sulit, San Isidro Labrador Parish Priest led the blessing of motorcycles and patrol cars.
