Due to the damaging effects of the non-stop torrential rains in the past three days brought about by habagat (monsoon rains) as intensified by tropical storm Maring (international name: Trami) which caused floods around the city, the following barangays were declared under state of calamity, following a special session of the Valenzuela City Council today.

Maring dumped one of the heaviest rains in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, causing floods comparable to typhoon Ondoy in 2009 and the habagat in 2012 which submerged the abovementioned barangays.
The City Council was in full attendance to expedite the approval of the resolution upon recommendation by the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LDRRMC) based on the assessment and monitoring report of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO). This process is mandated by the Republic Act 10121, or “The Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
These barangays had earlier passed their own resolution declaring respective communities under state of calamity.
As of 8:00 PM today, August 21, the CSWDO records show that there are 2,757 families totalling to 10,053 individuals sheltered to safety at 41 evacuation centers around the city.
City Mayor REX Gatchalian said that the declaration "is important for the city government to be able to have access to the calamity fund for the relief operations and in prompt assistance to the victims and their communities in the rebuilding efforts."
The city government is closely monitoring the level of floods both manually and with the aid of CCTV cameras installed at critical areas which provide real time visual assessments.
The CSWDO and the City Health Office also monitors the evacuees, providing them with hot meals and medical needs, and other vital supports.
