Valenzuela City honored 33 top taxpayers, as it continues the yearly tradition of paying tribute to the loyal and honest taxpayers that have been part of the foundation of the City.

A celebration of outstanding achievements in entrepreneurship, these awards showcase the best performing Valenzuelano businesses – the leaders in financial performance and growth in their respective line of trade, and in contributing to the building of the City.  "They are considered as the true assets and resources generators in our economy," City Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian said.

Out of 11,227 registered businesses in the year 2010, these 33 establishments were conferred with trophies as Top Taxpayers of 2010 in seven categories, namely: Top Financial Institutions, Top Manufacturers, Top Restaurants, Top Retailers, Top Contractors, Top Sari-sari Stores and Top Franchisees, plus the Over-all Top Taxpayer of 2010.

The City Government continues to employ reforms on business transactions.  Just recently, The World Bank and the International Finance Corporation recognized Valenzuela City as one of the business friendly cities in the country for the year 2011, ranking it 4th in the Ease of Starting a Business, 6th in the Ease of Dealing with Construction Permits and first in the Ease of Registering Property out of 25 Cities and 183 economies compared.

Overall, Valenzuela City was commended for having reduced the requirements for obtaining business permit, having implemented a system of one-time assessment and payment of fees, and for allowing business applicants to download forms from the city website.  The fee for notarizing the deed of sale for property registration was also reduced to 1% of property value.

It is also, perhaps, the reason why the City Government continues to gain the high level of taxpayers’ confidence and support.  Mayor WIN cites it as instrumental in the phenomenal rise in the City’s income and in meeting its target tax collections for 2010.  “With a total income of around PhP 2 Billion, we registered an astounding growth for any economy, whether local or national,” he added.

Because of this, the City Government will have sufficient funds and will able to implement necessary programs and projects to improve the lives of its constituency and to further boost the local economy.  “In return, we assure our dear taxpayers that we will continuously strive to affirm their trust and confidence by providing quality basic services for the people of the City of Valenzuela,” Mayor WIN added.

The ceremony was held today at the Valenzuela City Social Hall Building as part of the celebration of Mayor WIN’s 37th Birthday and was attended by local government officials and representatives from the business sector, and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) NCR Regional Director Riza J. Baldoriaas Guest of Honor.
