As part of the Valenzuela PNP’s early preparation for the traditional activities on Holy Week, “Oplan Galugad” was created and has started monitoring the entire city since March 31 and will last until April 10.

Through the order of City Mayor WIN Gatchalian, the said group was created by the City Chief of Police P/SSUPT. Atty. Wilben M. Mayor to monitor the hot spots in the city during the observance of the Semana Santa.  This aims to prevent any possible irregularities while Valenzuelanos are busy on their individual reflections.

Apart from establishing peace and order, Oplan Galugad will also monitor parishes and residents who conducts Pabasa ng Pasyon in pursuance to Mayor WIN’s plea to encourage the faithful to maintain the traditional way of reading it and discourage the modern way, such as hiphop, RNB or rap.

“This is just our request to all Valenzuelanos to please maintain the sacredness and solemnity of contemplating the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  This is the Filipino cultural tradition.  We can enjoy the hiphop and rap in some other time. The Pabasa is about Christ’s Passion. It is supposed to remind us of His sacrifice for humankind.  We should not clown or put humor on it.  It is the holiest time of the year for most Filipinos.  We should respect that by keeping it solemn and simple,” Mayor WIN said in a statement.

Valenzuela PNP will also monitor the transport terminals, resorts, and other recreational areas.  They will also conduct checkpoints and provide Police Assistance Centers for the motorists, commuters, and the general public to ensure safe and orderly commemoration of the occasion.

“Various criminal elements such as carnappers, hold-uppers, snatchers, and even akyat-bahay gang might take advantage of the situation, so we will be conducting police visibility, preventive patrols, traffic control and direction along major thoroughfares and other affected areas, he added.

Valenzuela PNP will also coordinate with the City Traffic Management Office (TMO) for the deployment of traffic enforcers along busy streets and with the Punong Barangays for the utilization of tanods in providing security to the residents.
