The National Nutrition Council (NNC) recently confers Valenzuela City Health Department (VCHD) with three prestigious citations that affirm the city’s effective project implementation and management.

During NNC’s Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held on July 28 at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City, the Valenzuela City Nutrition Committee was hailed first runner-up in the 2015 Outstanding Local Government Unit (LGU) in Program Implementation and Management, Best in Program Effectiveness, and Most Innovative LGU in the National Capital Region (NCR).                

Passing on the passion

After the July celebration of the National Nutrition Month dubbed as, “First 1000 Days ni Baby Pahalagahan Para sa Malusog na Kinabukasan,” VCHD extends its sense of passion and pride to the chosen individuals, groups, and institutions that have proven themselves as reliable stakeholders which positively contributed to the efficient delivery of nutrition programs for Valenzuelanos.

Winners of (a) NutriQuiz, the first inter-health center nutrition challenge for testing the knowledge of barangay health workers on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF); (b) Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) 2015, a search for the best performing BNS in the city; and (c) urban gardening contest, a city-wide annual gardening contest participated by certain households, schools and communities, together with the carefully chosen (d) “Hall Of Famers,” were conferred with certificates and gift prizes during the awarding ceremonies of 2016 Nutrition Month Celebration Culminating Activity held on August 2 at the AVR of Valenzuela City Legislative Building.

Hall of Famers

Mr. Eduardo Materum (Principal of Marulas Elementary School) – The person behind the consistent winning of Marulas Elementary School in the urban gardening contest, Valenzuela City schools category, for three consecutive years.

PB Ricardo de Guzman (Punong Barangay of Balangkas) – Punong Barangay of the only barangay government in the city that was able to acquire a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), which helps mother-beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in generating market produce for their additional family income.

Mr. Ariel San Buenaventura (a person with disability from Brgy. Mapulang Lupa) – An epitome of environmental concern that inspires the public that if a PWD can emerge as Champion in Cong. Win Gatchalian’s Urban Gardening Contest, everybody else can also do backyard farming if they will it.
