About 700 newly elected officers of the School Parent-Teacher Association (SPTA) of all public elementary and secondary schools in the City of Valenzuela take oath at The WES Arena, Barangay Punturin, October 26.

The School Parent-Teacher Association, formerly known as the General Parent-Teacher Association (GPTA), that was organized at the school level are composed of all parent/guardian members and teacher-members of a school.

The newly elected officers of the SPTA are for school year 2022 – 2023 that aims to ensure the welfare of the learners by having active and teamwork engagements among them - the school, parents, and teachers in the implementation of school programs. These school programs refer to Brigada Eskwela, Brigada Pagbasa, Commencement/Graduation, Recognition/Moving Up Exercises, and the like.

Several roles of the SPTA according to the DepEd Order No. 13, Series of 2022 or widely known as the Omnibus Guidelines on the Regulation of Operations of Parent-Teacher Association includes to be an avenue in addressing school-learner-related problems, offering action-based solutions, and providing necessary activities for the learners and the school in general, among others.

Dr. Meliton Zurbano, the Schools Division Superintendent, acknowledged the new officers of the SPTA, “Mula sa DepEd – Valenzuela, maraming salamat po. Gumagaan ang aming trabaho dahil sa mga tulong ninyo. Salamat dahil tinanggap ninyo ang hamon.” (From DepEd - Valenzuela, thank you very much. Our work is easier because of your help. Thank you for accepting the challenge.)

Valenzuela City Mayor WES Gatchalian led the oathtaking ceremony of the new SPTA officers. In his address, the Mayor announced all his future plans for the public education of the City such as construction of additional school infrastructure that will address the growing population of the students; introducing different teaching programs like the Big Brother,Big Sister, Lolo’t Lola Teaching program, Solo Parent Teaching Program, and Developmental Program.

Mayor WES then recognized the SPTA officers’ major role, “Kayo po ang magiging tulay at magpaparating sa akin ng mga mensahe at issues na nararanasan ninyo sa loob ng paaralan na kailangan natin ayusin within the boundaries of the LGU (Local Government Unit). Wala naman po kayong sahod or allowance, pero tinanggap ninyo ang responsibilidad. Saludo po ako sa inyong lahat.” (You will be the bridge and convey to me the messages and issues that you are experiencing within the school that we need to fix within the boundaries of the LGU (Local Government Unit). You don't have a salary or allowance, but you accepted the responsibility. I salute you all.)

Joining the ceremony were Education 360 Degrees Investment Program Action Officer, Rovin Feliciano, together with the City Councilors Niña Lopez, Chiqui Carreon, Cris Feliciano, Louie Nolasco, Mickey Pineda, Gerald Galang, and the Liga ng mga Barangay President, Councilor Jonjon Bartolome.
