Celebrating the role and significant contribution of every Solo Parent in the City, the City Government of Valenzuela commemorates Solo Parents’ Day and distributes grocery subsidies and nego-carts to solo parents at Valenzuela City People's Park Amphitheater and WES Arena, April 27.
In observance of the 2nd Valenzuelano Solo Parents’ Day, about 4,583 registered Solo Parents were honored and recognized for their resilience in raising their families on their own. This is pursuant to City Ordinance No. 1087, Series of 2023, declaring the third week and third Saturday of April of every year as Solo Parents’ Week and National Solo Parents’ Day.
During the week-long celebration, the City Government of Valenzuela distributed financial assistance to the qualified 487 solo parents amounting to PhP 1 Million under the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act or the RA 11861.
According to the law, eligible Solo Parents who are earning minimum wage and below shall be entitled to the PhP 1,000 cash subsidy per month, making Valenzuela City the first City in the National Capital Region to distribute the aforementioned benefit.
Fostering a culture of support, empowerment, and inclusivity, some of the activities that the local government has prepared were the Competent Parenting Program Seminar and the oathtaking ceremony of the Solo Parents officers of the 33 barangays.
Moreover, besides the financial assistance, Mayor WES Gatchalian also led the two-day distribution of the groceries subsidies to the 2,449 registered Solo Parents in District 1 and 2,134 beneficiaries of District 2 in the form of PhP 500 grocery gift certificates, totaling PhP 2.3 Million. Alongside, the negosyo carts dubbed nego-carts that cost PhP 30,000 each were also turned over to one Solo Parent per barangay to empower them and enhance their economic well-being.
The Valenzuela LGU has expressed its unwavering commitment to support every member of the Pamilyang Valenzuelano especially the Solo Parents, and continuously address their needs and concerns by providing various activities and initiatives.
Also gracing the event were Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, members of the City Council, Solo Parent Office Focal Person Kagawad Kisha Ancheta, Solo Parent Federation President Kagawad Nhat De Guzman, and Valenzuela City Chief on Social Welfare Operations Ms. Dorothy Evangelista.
