Valenzuela City joins the ranks of megacities of Pasig, Makati and Taguig as it assembles its own emergency operations center.
Inaugurated yesterday, June 24, the 120-square-meter Command Center at the City External Services Office (CESO) or Action Center compound will serve as the hub of the disaster management and crime prevention system of the city.
The center is equipped with PhP 22-million surveillance technology that will allow real-time monitoring of road traffic and accidents, street crimes, and flood level.
The ten television screens show images transmitted by the 73 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed throughout the city: 44 at major thoroughfares and 29 within the City Government Complex in Barangay Karuhatan.
According to Officer-in-charge Norman Ancheta, the center is still in its “burn test” period -- every equipment is tested to ensure best performance –and is expected to be fully-operational by July 15.
The Command Center will function as a call center and a dispatcher of rescue units during emergency situations, he said.
The former Electronics and Information Systems Division chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Ancheta brings with him 22 years of experience in electronic communication. He is currently leading a 16-person staff, which he plans to increase to 64 soon.
“We intend to devise an integrated alarm and warning system that reaches every barangay in Valenzuela City so disaster response would become faster,” Ancheta said.
Also inaugurated was the new Disaster Preparedness Office (DPO), also located at the Action Center compound. It is a better and modern home for Valenzuela City’s Rescue Unit where the personnel offices, and the rescue equipment, boats and vehicles are housed.
The facilities are Mayor WIN’s commitment to bolster and upgrade preparedness and response to disaster risks.
