Newly-appointed officials of two new barangays in Valenzuela City, Barangay Canumay West and Canumay East, took oath today before the City Mayor WIN Gatchalian.

It can be recalled that the two new barangays were formed out of Barangay Canumay through a plebiscite held last March 3, 2012 where majority of the residents went out to vote for “YES.”

By virtue of the Section 6 of the City Ordinance No. 37, Series of 2011, the incumbent officials shall serve in which new barangay they currently reside in and the Mayor has the power to appoint officials to fill in the vacant positions until the regular barangay election is held.

A committee composed of representatives from the religious, education, business and civic society was formed.  Under the leadership of Fr. Nap Baltazar, the committee received and meticulously screened nominees before submitting a recommendation to the city mayor.

Because Punong Barangay Rene Trinidad shall now serve in Barangay Canumay East and the position of Punong Barangay in Barangay Canumay West is vacated, the committee recommended Mr. Simeon Casimiro as the Officer-in-Charge Punong Barangay of Canumay West.

Assisting him as new kagawads are Anselmo Lahara, Virgilio Doneza, Armando Donesa and Eduardo Alejandrino. 

PB Rene, on the other hand, will be assisted by Camilo Pascual, Danilo Libores at Davienson Casimiro in Barangay Canumay East.

Also joining them in public service for the residents of Canumay East are SK Chairperson Darylle Miranda, with SK Kagawads, John Jonas Maldo, Jenny Rose Lance, Sarah Mae Orogo, Louwell Gonzales, Ma. Aljelly Tolidana and Grace Gutierrez.

Mayor WIN reminded the newly-appointed officials who, also formally took office today, of their rights, as well as, their responsibilities and advised them to serve with honesty and make the welfare of the people under their jurisdiction their utmost priority.

The City of Valenzuela now has a total of 33 barangays.
