Mayor WIN Gatchalian Cup Fun Fishing Tournament 2012 opens the month-long activities lined up as the City Mayor’s gift to the constituents for his 38th birthday celebration.

More than 300 anglers located their best spots over the seven stations of the 33-hectare Kap Larry’s Pond Pond in Barangay Coloong with their rods and baits as early as 6:00 o’clock in the morning aiming to catch the largest and heaviest fish to win the trophies at this year’s tournament.

Already running for four years now, Mayor WIN continues to initiate and support the tournament to promote the growing awareness and interest on fishing as a sport.  “It also aims to promote the rustic fishing zones of the Polo area as an alternative urban venue for family bonding and to appreciate nature,” he said in a statement.

This year’s tournament was spearheaded by City Sports Development Office Officer-in-Charge, City Councilor Gerry Esplana.  “As a sportsman, I always push through this kind of event because I know it will benefit the Valenzuelanos in terms of skills development.  We aim to make it bigger each time and we are happy that we attract more registrants yearly,” he said, thanking the participants during the awarding ceremony.

The biggest and heaviest fish caught was a bangus which weighs 1.16 kilos, with some unique catches, such as Carp, Jaguar and Ayungin.

Bangus Category

Champion                 :           Christian Libunao (1.16 kg)

1st runner-up             :           Gilian Plazaras (1.06 kg)

2nd runner-up           :           Jun Bernardo (1.04kg)

Tilapia Category      

Champion                 :           Ben Torres (1.05kg)

1st runner-up             :           Gener Dimailig (.97kg)

2nd runner-up           :           Rain Guevarra (.95kg)

Most Unique Catch

Carp                           :           Jetro Baldonado

Jaguar                        :           Paul Igaya

Ayungin                      :           Mitchel Parto

The winners received trophies and cash prizes: Php 5,000 for the champions, Php 3,000 for the 1st runners-up, Php 2,000 for 2nd runners-up in Bangus and Tilapia categories, while Unique Fish Catchers received Php 1,000 each.

Mayor WIN’s birthday celebration continue throughout the month of April with annually anticipated activities such as, Fun Run, Kasalang Barangay (Mass Wedding),Jobs and Trade Fair, Blood Letting and a month-long Sports Clinics.
